.Looking Back '08.

yep. looking back at year 2008. can almost say I never had a dull moment. just before, 2008 seems so far away and now, its over! hehe. right after the start of the year was back in camp! outfield outfield outfield. getting abit tired of it already but after CNY was so much better.

CNY, went out with poly classmates, another of our proud traditions! usually will go too someone's house, first 2 years was my, then grace's but this year only went out to PS for lunch outing and river angpow walk. hehe. suppose to go my house, but if they come, will end up meeting later, so changed it to town! missed shaun thou, he in NZ.

speaking of CNY, yesh! this year my platoon been selected(sabo) for performance again! so we brainstorm(quarrel & being scolded. LOL) hard. came out with this funny idea to do a 'deal or no deal' spoof! but this is 'sign or no sign'. PC mohd is the host, think is OC the hidden banker, james the contestant. with 7 other guys holding boxes number 1-7. each boxes got different puishment, how many extras for him to sign. his crime? stealing CSM underwear! hehe. james did a great job as contestant, ended with 16 or 32 extra(can't rmb exact details). my role? hehe! I pair up with jun wei for the middle advertisment, acting as 2 guards on guard-duty, we will walking around till we got hungry, but was reluctant to eat our 'lousy' combat rations, so then this Sgt will come in (yong) he will bring us the "CNY combat rations!" so I tear open the packet "WA, got abalone!" can't rmb wads jun wei lines :X then we end with "special CNY combat rations get yours from yr CQ now!" LOL. the whole show was a great success!! made everyone had a great laugh before the holidays!

after CNY was our overseas trips! this year went to thailand, sai york camp! and taiwan, haikou camp! perfer last year thou, 2 trips both too taiwan back to back. but for the experience its worth it! 2 words to describe thailand trip? "motion sickness!" its a 4 hour ride from airport to camp. and we practically spend 2/3 of our R&R on the bus travelling to places. LOL. anyway, thailand was hot! every afternoon was unbelieveable hot, can shower like 4-5 times a day, nothing to do? shower. and the bathroom showering is 1 big tub of water in the middle, open concept. can play water and throw ppl inside. LOL. and we often choose to walk 3 blocks down to the computer room for aircon, the only place in the camp accessble for us with aircon! I always bring my psp go there charge + play.

the food for cookhouse is really bad, worst than singapore. but! the canteen is one of the best! Sai York seafood! always look forward to after 8pm, so can eat canteen. curfew by OC else we will just eat canteen every meal. almost every night will eat zichar! LOL. tomyam seafood is a must. also the watermelon or mango freeze. super nice!! eat till got indigestion, haha. btw, we also got our worst ever scolding from OC (first time in my 2 years), due too some stupid reason, we kenna tekan late night, only the officers nv kenna. but OC did help us plan alot, he ensure we always have 1 night back in camp in between missions and outsource the sai york seafood store to outfield during 1 of the mission, so we can eat. haha! and! we fought with the commandos there, 2nd time in my atec life. they are allright lah. Haha.

had alot of fun this outfield, spent alot of time with my one remining section mate of my batch tommy! we chat about almost everything (girls, studies, work), he's the youngest. 1989 year. got good chemistry with him, anyway we always run into funny or dangerous events during the mission. Hehe. all the best for yr O'levels result!! glad that he decide to continue studies and aim to go poly!! my sections juniors are good JC boys! Hehe. (zhanjie, yunlong & jinzhe) believe I taught them almost everything i know! so was happy to pass section 1 too them. Hehe. after our "lousy" (okay lah, he acutally a very zai guy) sectcomd joel ORD-ed and goes back to NZ, I as section 2IC, to pass our spirit as platoon 1 good soldiers to them. btw according to joel, we are not soldiers, we are just civilian trying to be soldiers. Haha... also our new PS impressed me, during the last mission, he having spent up alot of his money went around ask the seniors man if we can spare any money, (I gave him everything I bought outfield). was quite late atnight already, he and zaff took the tunnel went out to buy us 6 big 3litre bottles of coke! omg! and they climbed up the hill with it too! was surprise he did that to try boost our morale. thats for outfield, R&R after was quite boring, can't wait to fly back singapore, took budget airline first time! jetStarAsia. also, the camp got bedbugs, got small red bites all over my body there, but healed when came back singapore.

after 1 week break of block leave and 1 week camp was back on plane to our next overseas taiwan! so looking forward too it! its taiwan again. enjoyed my previous 2 trips R&R in taipei, fun place to go for holiday, easy to get around too. but this time will be at kaohsiung! well. haikou camp is still the same, just 3 containers with zinc roof put together and called it a camp. but very free and easy lifestyle + ninja-van (vehicle that sells cooked food) will be park right beside our bunk at most of the time. I miss the 'chee pa' chicken cutlet and grill pork. outfield here is good also as all 3 meals you can eat it! no need to cook noodles or combat rations. and they also have this like prata thing, they call it 'zhua bing' can use to wrap anything, chicken cutlet to taiwan saugeges.

btw! this outfield was one of the longest ever, 5 straight days outside. was feeling quite miserable atfirst, feeling sick, took it one day at a time. lucky got my friends all around, else till the last day I still dunno how I manage to endure all the way. tommy started this thing, everytime we finish something we will go "one step closer to kaohsiung" minic dynasty warrior game dialog. we also spend alot of time doing nothing in camp. I manage to watch an entire "my name is earl" season 3 on my psp. went too kenting(southern most nightmarket tourist area) also for like the 4th time in 3 trips? didn't change much still a nice chillout market, got alot of good taiwan food thou. btw! taiwan got very famous & nice big bowl cup noodles with real meat inside and excellent soup base. best cup noddle ever eaten. bought like 20 cups this time back. lucky got container :X

one thing that I miss this year is the mountain winds as we went during March instead of February. the winds never stop blowing, you feel so comfortable that you dun wanna do any work. Hehe. but we did experience abit of typhoon thou. overseas trips always improve our platoon relationships. cose we are pack side by side in our taiwan bunk. Haha. the beds are joined and need to share cupboards, so space is limited. but it always make our platoon more together, usually in cook house diff batch intake ppl will sit together with their own batch until after overseas, we now sit with everyone and anyone. LOL. and grateful for having someone good sleeping right beside me, first year was weihan! haha. we chiong PSP together. this year was liow. had alot of fun talking rubbish with him. thanks!

btw! for RnR taiwan we got to go to 'kaohsiung'. hehe. actually the city is similar too taipei. and we just shop non-stop and eat non-stop! always love shopping in taiwan, must cheaper than singapore and the clothes designs there are good! loves adidds originals! went to their night market too! (liouhe night market) got afew large cheap clothing stores. similiar to 'this fashion' for men! my gang can stay in there for afew hours sia. tommy went in, came out with 8 t-shirts! LOL. food is good there too! but can't find ah zhong mee sua there thou, miss the mee sua so much!!! also visited the biggest shopping mall in taiwan, 4th in the world if I not wrong. the dream mall! 夢時代購物中心 got a hello kitty ferris wheel on top of it! but the mall's shops is very similar to taipei 101 thou. must go visit taiwan soon! just do sight-seeing and shopping at own pace. RnR is always rushing, 1 and ahalf day only. so many places to visit.

after overseas, go through 1 last outfield, and our time has arrived. ORD loh! it was sweet. but they were quick to remind us that we have another 10 years of debt. posted too 769 SIR for reservist. but will worry about it when its due.

hehe! will have 2mths break before the next stage of my life began. was out looking for a job, so got a job as a tutor. will be station at a factory in woodlands and tutor the boss's 3 sons (wee song, wee quan, wee chuan) and sister-in-laws 3 children (angela, anthony, ann qi). all in woodland primary. LOL. had alot of fun teaching them. they are split up in 3 groups. wee song is super hyper active, will always fool and run around the room. need to hold him down and his workrate is super slow. but he is a smart boy, good in maths and only in primary 1, so its okay to be playful. his tution mate is angela, also P1, she is super bright. unbelieveable in english. I can teach her P3 english and she can understand and learn them super fast. they all is chinese-speaking family so more incline to chinese, think better than me. and I love her huge eyes! super cute. but she does anything else is super slow (complained by the others) eg. writing, eating. LOL. btw, she told me her everyday recess she will go library read english book. I was impressed! she love reading. haha. and P1 have story reading (teacher will read a story book for them) every friday by the teachers in the library, so she and wee song will go together can she always say the teacher choice of reading is something she had read before liao. LOL. I will be very contented if I have a daughter like her. I believe she can go academically very far! jia you!

next group is wee quan and ann qi. wee quan P3 is smart but lazy. always never do his homework. need scolding! hehe. ann qi P5 is hardworking but weak in english. but I believes she can excel too, cose she willing to work hard. and the last group is anthony and wee chuan. anthony P2 needs alot of pushing, cose he and his 2 sister came over from malaysia, and anthony studies is the weakest. but can see improvement in his work, towards the end of my working days, I gave him one-on-one tutoring as wee chuan got alot of other committments. wee chuan P6 is the brightest of his 3 brothers ba. entertaining kid too. he told me his maths is his weakest but its almost flawless. Haha. unbelieveable. believe he should be inside his choice of anderson secondary now in 2009. and he was reading 'romance of the three kingdoms' comic everytime. LOL. I also have it! hahaha! ROTK is 1 of my favourite stories. overall it was a great teaching experience, was happy when heard from the peeps that boss say that under me, the children got improve! kenna miss them now, will hope and pray for them! all the best!

shaun came back from NZ looking larger than last year, hahaha. he been gym-ing alot there. they fed him well too! hehe. GX left for UK. Jase left for Aussie. study hard guys and come back soon.

thats bring my holidays too an end. And different paths are choosen. I understand everything. sometimes the timing just isn't right. everyone pursuit happiness. after months of thinking, clearing out stuffs. realise that you can't wish for everything to last forever. but memories can. let everything go. so reminisce only once in a while. indulge in enjoyable recollection of past events. and yesh for me, I remember only the good now...

and yep! thats begin my uni studies! got into NTU double degree business and computing course 2 years ago. so now finally starting. realise in the first week, this not gonna be an easy course. and no exemption allowed, 2 degrees in 4 years according to them is max. fastest. so dug in hard into studies. seriously to admit, I never was the study type. it just never attached me. but poly was more interesting. and currently I do enjoy my business modules. and I admit I was poor last time this means I need to work harder, need to relearn and get my basics right. comparing to those from good JC means that I'm missing afew years of hardwork. alot of scary ppl too. A-levels so many As. Haha. but! I got my friends! my NP gang and also made afew good friends there, fabian, chris, wang quan, jie hao, ty. its not easy to make friends in Uni. all my class are with different peeps. just ask yc or shank. so was fortunate DD guys are quite together. also there was once in this extra math tutorial, there was more foreign students than singaporean, only me and tianci. tianci's malaysian too. and the tutor is a china guy. and he commented that we should do our work before coming to class, well that was directed at us as only we are copying down wad he says or write. hey, I got do hor, just writing down some parts that I dun understand or did wrong. I was zzzz out but admit the tutor teach well.

had alot of fun in hall but not in the hall activites but in room with YC, I think I choose one of the best person for roomie. he is 1 of the happiest person I ever seem and he is really passionate about his stuffs, something I need to learn from him. LOL. know him alot better after seeing him up to 5 days a week. thanks yc for all yr help and support! but mostly I be up doing work while he sleep. and I leave room he be there, and by the late afternoon I come back, he be sleeping. his timetable is slack loh! Haha. canteen near by hall is good! thats why I'm getting fat :X anddd! YC is hooked on MSN, hahaha. keep chatting with his cosplayers xiao mei mei. LOL. he is a pro photographer. once, he was chatting with this sec ger, in normal acad, who was depressed about studies, and he told her that his roommate was from normal acad too and now in double degree, wads about impossible to dream about uni? I was surpise cose I never tot of it that way, and it does encouraged me and make me proud! btw, I like to compare PSLE with uni peeps. haven seen 1 lower than mine. I got 174.

for CCA I joined welfare services club, was acutally influenced by tianci, so went for the FOC (friends of children) interview, they need interview to join. FOC gives tution once or twice a week at CC or centers to childrens of low family income. I chose every tuesday (bright owls project, tutor primary students) at jurong west whispering heart center, near jurong west stadium. and I got in! haha. tianci got rejected! omg! but after afew session, manage to pull tianci in! hehe! the peeps there are nice, only got 3 guys this batch, about 20 gers. LOL. they got 2 different group, P3-P4 and P5-P6, most peeps chose P3-P4 so I went for the P5-P6 group, its a milder group, and! I made a big mistake on the first day! was teaching this P6 boy with 2 other NTU tutor, LOL, I acutally taught him speed = distance X time. OMG! and the other 2 tutor say correct! OMG! Haha. I didn't realise till I got back to hall. I'm badd! haha. P6 maths is not easy, getting quite tough too. mostly I teach this 2 boys, wei jie and this malay boy(can't rmb name :X quite chem). both are very quiet. wei jie is bright, didn't need much help 1, and his hairstyle is cool, abit like small ah beng. LOL. was happy he got 230 for PSLE, got posted to fuhua sec, I acutally help him aim river valley(his elder brother there) but he wanted to go commonwealth sec(another bro there). still wish him all the best! do study hard! he will be with another FOC program start 2009.

missed out on afew FOC events this december, for Zoo trip, wasn't selected. for hay diaries trip was sick, fever. for kids world camp. jun wei didn't tell me he going else would have gone and sign up with him. anyway, gonna pull jun wei into my program, LOL. more of my peeps. hehe. anyway will try be more active next sem. and for the rest of holidays, outing outing, had a great birthday this year! hadn't had so much fun for a long time. good chrismas and new year countdown. final words?

Thank you and good bye 2008.

PS: Thank for reading this extreme long post. haha! tried my best to rmb as much as possible, will update more and all pics here are sneak preview of more too come! hehe. my life's interesting rite.? LOL.

yours,
Ben Lim
